[*] bakerdays Letterbox Cake Review

Cake has always been one of my guilty pleasure foods, I could literally eat it all day until the nausea starts to kick in and I regret my life decisions...so when bakerdays offered me the chance to review one of their letterbox cakes, I squealed and spent the following few hours scrolling through their extensive range of designs only to settle for one from a classic movie that I love. It's not my birthday until November or anyone I know for a while yet so the design wasn't directly aimed at anyone but I just couldn't help myself. I mean, it's Princess Leia, come on. Who doesn't want that badass babe on a cake? They have SO many designs to choose from for all occasions as well as the option to personalize your own cake by adding your own photos and a special message. How cool is that? In theory I probably could have gone a bit more out there and tried out the personalisation but my inner geek got too excited at Star Wars, don't judge me! :P

The first pro of these letterbox cakes is that they are literally what they claim to be: letterbox sized cakes. They come securely sealed in an air tight bag to maintain freshness inside a sturdy tin, inside a slim cardboard box so when they come through your letterbox, they won't get damaged. I think this is such a great idea as you don't even have to be at home to receive it, it'll be waiting for you when you return. You also get this lovely little Just For You card along with it which is a cute extra, especially if you're buying the cake for a friend/family member as you can write a little message inside for them.

The cake itself isn't very thick - as to be expected for something that has to fit through a letterbox - it measures 5" in diameter and serves approx. 4 people, depending on how big you want your slice to be! There are a variety of flavours for everyone: traditional sponge, rich chocolate chip, gluten wheat free sponge, lovely lemon drizzle, dairy free sponge and fabulous fruit. I chose chocolate chip because, well, it's chocolate and I'm shamelessly addicted!

With a buttercream layer at the bottom to keep it moist, the cake was scrumptious to say the least. It wasn't too sweet or sickening, had just the right amount of chocolate and went down a treat. For £14.99, I think it's a great deal for the quality of the product, especially if you take the time to personalize it how you want. They put so much effort into every design, you won't be disappointed. bakerdays offer next day delivery when you order before 2pm and you can have the sweet treat delivered straight to the recipients house to save any fuss. Or if you want to be really organised, you can even order up to 1 year ahead of your delivery date! They also do personalized cupcakes, candles and balloons if you want to add a little extra touch.

So if you're looking for a personalized gift for someone special who has a sweet tooth, then bakerdays is the place to go! Check out their website at www.bakerdays.com

  1. Oh this looks so yummy :) I'm with you on Star Wars, we're massive fans in this household. But I don't know how you could bring yourself to cut into Leia, haha! It's such a good concept to send cakes that fit through the letterbox and it makes such a change to the normal birthday cake. Fab review and pictures, lovely, glad you treated yourself and enjoyed your cake! x
